Our Mission
Below are the folks making Salty Kidz happen. If you happen to see us surfing by the peir, doing vinyasas on the beach, kayaking or SUPing, come introduce yourself! We are a very friendly group.
Dan Yost
President
Dan has a Bachelor degree in Recreation and Sports Management with emphasis on Outdoor Recreation. While in school, he held the position of Fundraising Chair on the board of directors for the Winyah Chapter of the Sierra Club. He was awarded South Carolina Student Conservationist of the year in 2006 for his services. He has been a guide, naturalist, and camp leader in the area for several different kayaking companies; Coastal Expeditions, Flipper Finders, Charleston Kayak Company, and Adventures in Florida. He has learned a great deal from surfing, kayaking, fishing, and recreating up and down the East Coast.
Lauren Cole
Secretary
Lauren has a Bachelor of Social Work, and more specifically worked with underprivileged and at risk youth through foster care. Also, during her undergrad studies, she worked for a river rafting company where she learned how beneficial water activity and nature can be.
Christopher Durand
Fundraiser and Special Event Advisor
Chris been on the seen in Charleston for 20+ years as a lighting and event expert. He has worked with nearly every artist at almost every venue in the area. He has a degree from Colorado State. He is also a father of 2 and an avid surfer, kayaker, and snowboarder.
Jason Smith
Watersports Advisor
Jason is a ACA level 3 paddleboard instructor and was one of the pioneers of stand up paddle boarding/ SUP surfing in Charleston. He has a degree in Forestry. He is also an avid kayaker and surfer.
Kristi Cogswell
Treasurer
Kristi has a Bachelor's in Journalism & Mass Communications and a Master's in Clinical Psychology. She currently works for My Sister's House, Inc., a local domestic violence program which focuses on creating safety & empowerment for women & children affected by violence, and represents the agency in public education campaigns and trainings. She was awarded Employee of the Year in 2010. She is also an avid surfer & conservationist.
